Swamimalai Tours
Nestled on an artificial hill, Swamimalai Temple is one among the six dwelling places of Lord Subramanya and main reason behind Swamimalai Tours. You have to walk on foot to reach this place of great religious importance. The location of this temple on the hills doesn’t deter the patience of the devotees who make a beeline to seek the blessings of the presiding deity Swaminathan at the Swamimalai Temple.
This temple is one among the six shrines sanctified to Lord Muruga. The legend has it that
Saint Bhrugu prior to onset of his difficult penance asked for a blessing that, those disrupted his meditation will loose all his prior memories. Such great was the impact of the penance of Bhrugu that a fire originating from his head reached Heaven giving the gods in heaven a tough time looking for security under the defence of Lord Shiva. Explore this legendary place on your Swamimalai Tours.
To save the gods from the curse of Saint Lord Shiva himself put out the fire with his hand. But as a consequence he lost his entire knowledge he had gained before. According to beliefs, he got back the knowledge by mastering Pranava mantra at this temple from Lord Muruga. Visit the place which once served as a learning centre for Lord Shiva.
The Temple has three gopurams (entrances) and three praharams. The five storied southern gopuram is decorated with statues. The other two gopuram’s have no towers as such. During your tours to Swamimalai explore the temple at your own.
If you want to reach the shrine sanctified to Goddess Shakti you have to pass the ‘Raja Gopuram' and the 'KalyanaMandapam’ first.
The other attraction of your Swamimalai Tours is 'Vajra Teertha'.
