Udhagamandalam or Ooty is the headquarters of the Nilgiri District and is popularly famous as the 'Queen of Hill Stations'. This sultry tourist site is laden with gorgeous sites to savour.
Botanical Gardens: A gamut of regionally exclusive and ornamental plants is found in this garden. The Botanical garden also serves as the venue for the Flower Show held in May every year. It in addition homes a fossil tree trunk 20 million years old.
St. Stephen's Church: The St. Stephen's Church, found on the Mysore thoroughfare, close to the Collectorate, is one of the oldest places of worship in the Nilgiris. The glass paintings represent Mary keeping baby Jesus in her arms and the crucifixion of Christ amid others. On the Western divider, atop the panelled doorways, is a large life-like covering in paint of the Last Supper.
Ketty Valley View: Located on the thoroughfare to Coonoor, this idyllic site is a cluster of very small Villages that reach to the flat lands of Coimbatore and Mysore plateau.
Ooty Lake: You can opt for a pleasurable boat journey on this artificial lake. The lake garden has toy trains for the amusement of tourists. Constructed in 1824 by Major John Sullivan, the then the Collector of Coimbatore, the pool is a major hit amongst the tourists.
Glenmorgan: About 25 km from Ooty is the pictorial Glenmorgan, which is renowned for its tea estate. Glenmorgan and Singara are a tourist delight. There are about 10 Todas (tribal) community in the vicinity that have inhabited the region for ages.
Doddabetta: Lying at the junction of Western & Eastern Ghats, Doddabetta is the utmost peak (2623 meters) in the Nilgiri's, about 10 km from Ooty. You can get a telescopic view of all the celestial objects in the city from the Doddabetta peak.
