Kottayam furthermore has some of the best sightseeing locations and is known for its picturesque splendour. The town encompasses picturesque backwater locations that provide a ferry ride through serenity. Kottayam is furthermore called the land of latex and rubber. Aranmula: In Aranmula Onam, a boat carnival is commemorated in early September. In this splendid carnival boat races take place. But the races are more of a religious nature as compared to the Nehru Trophy race at Alappuzha that is held in August. During the carnival, dressed up elephants with beaded umbrellas move on for a procession.
Vaikom: Vaikom is established at an expanse of 40 kilometers from Kottayam. Vaikom is well liked for its Shiva Temple. Every year The Shiva carnival is held in November-December that lasts for12 days. While in Vaikom do not miss the 'Panchavadyam,' an absolutely crucial melodious performance.
Bharananganam: Bharananganam is a significant pilgrimage centre for the Christians. It is established besides the St. Mary's Church. The place of adoration is nearly thousand years old and has a well-carved cavern of Virgin Mary.
Cheryapalli: Built in the year 1579, this church is dedicated to St. Mary and has some attractive paintings of the Biblical era.
Mannanam: This location is a well renowned Christian centre. The well renowned St. Joseph's monastery is established over here. A famous saint of Kerala renowned as Father Kuriakose Elias of Chavara (1805 -1871) lived here. Mannanam is the location where one of the oldest publishing presses of India was established. Some of Karalla’s oldest bulletins are published over here.
Thirunakkara Mahadev Temple: Located in the heart of Kottayam, this temple is constructed in the usual Kerala style. The architecture and murals are stunningly beautiful. The temple is crammed by a large number of devotees who come to attend the annual carnival in the month of March.
Valiyapalli Church: One of the biggest churches in Kottayam, the Valiyapalli church was constructed in the year 1550 for the Knanaya Orthodox Syrians and is renowned for its very vintage Persian cross going out with back to the 8th 100 years and furthermore the Pahalavi inscription on the cross.
