Bijapur Tours
Bijapur tours would include the ancient memorials and imperial castles in Bijapur. Tours to Bijapur will take you to the leading tourist attractions.
Gol Gumbaz
The showpiece among Bijapur attractions, this splendid edifice is the mausoleum of Mohammed Adil Shah (1627 -56), the seventh ruler of the Adil Shahi dynasty. An epitome of architectural genius, the central dome of the tomb, second in size only to the dome of St Peter's Basilica in Rome, stands groundless by any pillars. The whispering verandah is another astounding aspect, which clearly reverberates the feeblest rustle eleven times.
Ibrahim Roza
The handiwork of proficient Iranian craftsmen, this square enclosure comprises the tombs of Ibrahim Adil Shah II and his family. This monument, which is conceived to have prompted the creation of the Taj Mahal at Agra, is noted for its spectacular balance of proportion, beautiful minarets cupolas, parapets and pelmets. This complete structure lies above a cellar which houses underground passages (used to store munitions and food) and also holds dwelling quarters for the cavalry, with stables opposite.
Malik-e-Maidan
This gigantic cannon, fourteen feet long and weighing about 55 tons, is an awesome sight. Built by the Adil Shahis, the gag of the cannon is shaped like the head of a lion squashing an elephant to death with its huge jaws. An unusual characteristic of this fabled gun is that it is always cold to touch even under the glaring sun.
Jumma Masjid
On your tour of Bijapur, do not neglect this impressive mosque. The Jumma Masjid disseminating over an area of 116300 square feet is considered as one of the best mosques in India. An epitome of Adil Shahi architecture, this expansive mosque is an ocular delight with its graceful arches, aisles, halls, intricate designs, and large crowning onion dome. The mosque cautiously preserves a Quran with verses inscribed in letters of gold.
