There is a well known place of worship in Arthunkal noted as the St. Andrews Church. This place of worship was set up by the Portuguese in the year 1851. Chettikulangara Bhagawathy Temple
This temple is very well famous among the local population, as it is accepted that the deity of the Bhagawathy temple has supernatural healing powers. In the months of February and March the temple is teaming with life as the carnival of Bharani takes location throughout this time. The temple comes to life with impressive feasts.
Alleppey Boat Races
Alappuzha is well noted for vessel races and its annual water carnival festival. The most celebrated amongst them all is the Nehru Trophy Boat Race. It takes place at the Unnamed Lake and is presumed to be the largest boat race in the world. India's previous Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru instituted this famous boat race. Each serpent vessel can accommodate round 150 individuals that include oarsmen, instrumentalists and singers. The race is a splendid treat to eyes and thousands of persons arrive from Kerala and neighbouring states to observe this gala event.
