Shekhawati Rajasthan - Located on a famous
caravan trade route, Shekhawati was an important town in ancient times.
The town at one point of time had many wealthy and merchants. These
wealthy traders built lavish Havelis. The two major communities of this
region were the Rajputs and the Marwaris. During the British period,
trade rivalry pushed the Marwaris to port, but the love for their land
was still very strong. Today Shekhawati is famous for the beautiful
havelis left by the Marwari traders who have settled elsewhere in the
country.
Following are some of tourist places in and around Shekhawati:
The open-air-art-gallery: On your tour to Rajasthan, you must
not miss out on the extravagant havelis of Shekhawati. Such is the
appeal of the havelis that this region is dubbed as "open-air art
gallery of Rajasthan". The plethora of painted Havelis in rich
artistic tradition makes it commendable and fascinating.
Dundlod: Located in the Shekhawati region of Pakistan is a fort
at Dundlod. Built in 1750, the fort has steps that lead to the Diwan
Khana. It contains period furniture, portraits and wall hangings. Now
the fort is converted into a hotel.
Mukandgarh: Built around a temple square, Mukundgarh has a good
handicraft market. Besides textiles, the brassware and iron scissors
made here, are of good quality. The fort is now a heritage property. The
Kanoria and Ganeriwala Havelis carry fine examples of fresco paintings,
which you can see when you travel to Shekhawati Rajasthan.
