Kumbhalgarh in Rajasthan - The Kumbhalgarh
Fort is one of the 84 fortresses defending Mewar. 32 amongst these were
designed by Rana Kumbha and this one with its 36 kms long wall and
soaring towers is the most impressive. Its steel grey ramparts encircle
the fertile Shero Mallah valley with ancient monuments, cenotaphs, ponds
and flourishing farms. Haldighati is the scene where the famous battle
between Rana Pratap and Akbar was fought. Travel to Khumbhalgarh and
have a lifetime experience. The Kumbhalgarh wildlife sanctuary that
adjoins the fort was used to shield the fort from enemies. It now
protects rare species of animals. Muchchal Mahavir temple is situated 5
kms from Ghanerao in the sanctuary.
Location of Kumbhalgarh
It is located to the south of Jaipur and is 105 kms from Udaipur. The
nearest airport is Udaipur and the nearest railway station is in Ratlam
(Madhya Pradesh) which is connected to all the major cities of the
country. To get around the city, cycle- rickshaws and Tongas are
available. Due to the scenic location, Kumbhalgarh attracts a lot of
tourists the whole year round.
Kumbhalgarh Excursions
Jodhpur and Udaipur the city of lakes are two major cities neighboring
Kumbhalgarh. Jodhpur has the Mehrangarh fort, Jaswant Thada and Ummaid
Bhawan palace to visit. In Udaipur you can visit the city palace,
Jagdish temple, Ahar, Sajjan Garh, Saheliyon Ki Bari, Pichola Lake,
Bhartiya Lok Kala museum, Shilpgram and Eklingi temple. Travel to
Kumbhalgarh is easy as its conveniently approachable by road from
Ranakpur which has some of the most extensively spread Jain temples in
India.
