Chittorgarh City - The very spirit of
Chittorgarh epitomizes the pride, romance and spirit of the Rajputs. The
city of Chittorgarh echoes tales of heroism and sacrifice to every
traveler. A ruined citadel, where the royal past lives in its imposing
forts, graceful palaces and spectacular chattris. This fortified
settlement has been ravaged thrice and each time the outcome was
'Jauhar' - when women and children immolated themselves on a huge
funeral pyre while men donned in saffron robes of martyrdom rode out of
the fort towards a certain death.

The Fort: The pride of Chittorgarh, the fort is the most
important structure in the city. Built over a height of 180 meters, the
fort is spread across 700 acres. Among the monuments housed within the
fort are Rana Kumbha Palace, Fateh Prakash Palace, Tower of Victory and
Padmini's Palace.
Kirti Stambh: Chittorgarh is also a religious site to the Jains.
The town has one of the finest Jain structures in the country, the Kirti
Stambh. Dedicated to Adinath, the first Jain Tirthankar, the Kirti
Stambh was built in the 12th century A.D., by a wealthy Jain merchant.
The tower is adorned with figures of Digambars saints.
Bassi Wildlife Sanctuary: A 50 sq kilometer sanctuary, the Bassi
Wildlife Sanctuary has a rich collection of fauna consisting of
panthers, antelope, wild boar and birds.
