Overview
The sitabari fair is held in the village Kelwara in Baran district. This
fair is mainly held prior to dussehra. The reason behind conducting the
fair is based on the epic Ramayana. It is said that Sita, the wife of
lord Rama, was undergoing the banishment period at this particular
place. Laxman, brother of Rama, in order to obtain water shot an arrow
on the ground and after which it was called Laxman Badhuka.
The fair has gained popularity in Rajasthan.
Information om Sitabari Fair
Laxman Badhuka is a huge tank where the people used to take dip in water
for the purpose of purification of body and soul. There are two types of
Kunds which are Laxman Kund and Suraj kund. The laxman kund exists along
with the gates called Laxman darwaza. The Suraj Kund is surrounded by
verandahs, where the Siva lingam is found at one of the kund. There is a
part of gathering created all around this place and people offer
prayers.
Location and How to reach Sitabari Fair
The Kelwara village lies in Baran district which is just seventy five
kilometers away from each other. The place Sitabari is one kilometer
away from Kelwara. And Kelwara is 117 kilometers far from Kota.
