Fair Overview
Pushkar Fair is the largest fair in India and only one of this
type in the world wherein thousands of people from rural India
congregate in the town of Pushkar. People come with their livestock to
trade in camel and horse, apart from visiting holy places. Every year
this fair takes place in the month of October or November on the 8th
lunar day and continues till the Purina. Devotees take a holy dip in the
Sarovar lake which is known to impart salvation.
Pushkar Fair in Rajasthan
People from all parts of India come to Pushkar fair to take a holy dip
in the Sarovar lake. The town is converted into an amazing
fair ground with rows of stalls displaying a variety of objects ranging
from traditional crafts, decorative items for women and cattle to items
of daily use. Camel and Horse races are a treat to watch. Competitors
judging these races are very popular among the local population.
Different traditional folk dances are held each evening in front of
applauding crowds. A number of films, travel shows and magazines feature
the Pushkar fair.
Pushkar Fair Location
Pushkar is a holy town and is located close to Jaipur and is
strategically located in the national highway. Busses ply from Jaipur to
Pushkar to and fro at regular intervals.
