Fair Overview
The Mahavirji Fair in Chandangaon is a very significant fair because it
is associated with the 24th tirthankara or saint of the Jains. The Fair
is celebrated from Chaitra Shukla Ekadasi to Baisakh Krishna Dwitiya
that is in the months of March to April. The fair is in the honor of the
Jain saint Mahavir and many Digambar Jain followers flock to the
destination to pay their respects to their god.

The Mahavirji Fair is held in Chandangaon and the place is only six and
a half km away from the Mahavirji Railway station and is 176 km from the
major city of Jaipur. Guests can also take up bus from Jaipur to the
fair destination. Thus, getting at the fair is site is easy for the
tourists.

Any celebration that is associated with gods in India comprises of
elaborate rituals. The Mahavirji Fair is thus all about celebration and
is full of pious ceremonies. First, the idol of Mahavirji is washed and
the asht-gandha is applied to the idol. The worship of the god in the
evening is another great ceremony to witness at the fair. There are
lamps of ghee are lighted which illuminates the sacred atmosphere at the
fair. The offerings to the deity include rice, flowers, sandalwood,
camphor, mishri that is sugar in its crystallized form and dry fruits.
The procession of the deity is called the Rath Yatra, which is the fairs
great attraction for the tourists.
The shops at the place are full food grains, cloth and general
merchandise for the guests. The whole fair is drenched with the
atmosphere of sacredness and one never feels to go back.
