Gangaur Festival


Overview
The Gangaur festival is a local festival and celebrated in the month of July- August. People celebrate it with joy with the arrival of monsoon. In this particular festival they worship goddess Gauri. When we divide the term Gangaur it becomes Gan and Gaur where the former means Shiva and the latter means Gauri or Parvati, wife of Lord Shiva.

Information on Gangaur Festival
The beginning of the Gangaur Festival is conducted in the month of Chaitra, Vedic calendar, which is in the month of March. For the purpose of this festival the unmarried girls fast for eighteen days. The people make the idol with wooden pieces over which clay is put to give a structure. They are decorated and painted, on the day of celebration in the morning they follow the whole schedule.
