Pokhran is a town and a municipality in Jaisalmer locality in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is an isolated place in Thar Desert district, the location for India's first under ground nuclear explosion. Approximately 12 km in Ramdevra town, the Baba Ramdev Temple is a blazingly tinted temple, which is revered and attracts visitors all through the year. According to a legend, Lord Rama was about to fire a projectile that would have dehydrated up the oceans round Sri Lanka, but was convinced not to. In come back, he discharged that heat developing projectile into the mythological River Saraswati, which utilised to flow through Pokhran and the adjacent areas. It dehydrated up and was restored by this barren desert. It is best renowned for the Pokhran Fort, assembled out of yellow sandstone under the patronage of Marwar Thakur Rao Maldeo, four centuries ago. Today it has been turned into a heritage hotel. Though a concealed gem of Rajasthan, Pokhran is an attractive town with superb chronicled monuments and havelis.
