The present village of Narendra Nagar came into reality in 1919, when Maharaja Narendra Shah of Tehri Garhwal moved his capital from Tehri to a more scenic locale. The little village of Odathali nestled in the Shivalik foothills was selected not only for its exceptional picturesque attractiveness, but furthermore for its proximity to the flat lands below. On a clear day one can get aerial outlook of Rishikesh, Haridwar and Ganga raging torrent from hills to Plains of Haridwar.
In the early 1900s, Narendra Nagar became a well liked place travelled to with the British Viceroy's of the time. The Palace 'Annexed' was supplemented to the initial castle construction in 1910 to dwelling the Viceroy and his entourage who travelled to Narendra Nagar equitably often. The last Maharaja, His Highness Manabendra Shah took over the reigns of Tehri Garhwal in 1946, from Maharaja Narendra Shah, who abdicated in the favour of his child.The province was finally amalgamated with the territory of Uttar Pradesh soon after India profited her independence.
'The Narendra Nagar Palace', is now dwelling to 'Ananda - In the Himalayas', a place travelled to spa, that examines down into the Doon valley from its majestic size of 3000 feet. Crowning a scenic ridge of the strong Himalayan varieties, the castle is an emblem of the grandeur and splendour of an era gone by. Original respite work still adorns the castle partitions and two magnificent World War I cannons flank the regal gateway.
