Faridabad Tours
An industrialized city of Haryana, Faridabad has been named after its creator, Shaikh Farid, the treasurer of Emperor Jahangir, in 1607 A.D. It was built in order to protect the thoroughfare passing through the town. As a township it housed a citadel, a reservoir and a mosque, which regrettably is in ruins today. On 15th August 1979, Faridabad became the official 12th district of the State of Haryana. It accounts for Haryana's main sources revenue generated through the 15,000 small, medium and large industries.
Faridabad is today ranked at number 9 amongst the leading industrialized cities of Asia generating a turnover of Rs.1500 billion. Faridabad is considered to have R&D facilities in Asia. Popular places of tourist interest in Faridabad include the Badhkal Lake, 32 km from Delhi. It is a great retreat to relax amidst birds, lake and hills, and allows tourists enjoy some adventure sports like canoeing, trekking, rock climbing and kayaking.
One can also visit the Raja Nahar Singh Palace in Ballabgarh, now transformed to a certain extent into a heritage resort. While the heritage and the look of the fortress has been maintained by way of its courtyards and pavilions, the antiques and the architecture, it has been equipped with most modern amenities like a lounge and bar for the convenience of its sophisticated clientele.
The Surajkund Crafts Mela, which is held for a period of 15 days from Feb 1 to 15, every year is a ‘must –watch’ destination if you are visiting Faridabad during the month of February. One can hit the malls or indulge in shopping for ethnic mirrors, embroidery and lace work, metal and cane products, bangles, toys, etc. The best part about this festival is that one can glimpse an interesting array of handlooms and handicrafts from all parts of the country. Outdoor recreation options include cricket and golf. You can catch some live cricket action at the Nahar Singh Stadium or practice some golf at the Aravalli Golf Club.
