The city of Alwar is situated in Rajasthan at about 160 km south of Delhi, and 150 km north of Jaipur. One of the most coveted tourist addresses in India, Alwar was identified in the second half of the 18th century by Pratap Singh, a Rajput of the Kachwaha pedigree. Vinay Vilas:
An 18th century castle reflecting the perfect blend of the Rajput and Mughal architectural style, Vinay Vilas was constructed in 1840AD atop a triangular hilltop. Soaring up to 300 meters, it houses exquisite memorials and structures, a museum and tranquil lakes. The 24 meters Bhagvat Gita, Arabic Koran and the biography of Babur, “Baburnama” are some of the rarest treasures in this museum. Exclusive collections of armoury and swords of the greats like Emperor Akbar, Shah Jahan, and Aurangzeb are also housed here. Armaments of the then kings are surmounted on the walls of the museum. 700 rare manuscripts in Hindi, Sanskrit, Persian and Arabic and other languages as well are found in the museum.
Sariska Tiger Reserve:
Set up in 1955, the Sariska Tiger Reserve is one of the few wildlife reserves which are home to devastated temples and memorials including a wide variety of fauna. One of the ancient castles has been renovated into a hotel. Extended over an area of 800kms, it is home to the four horned antelopes, cheetals, sambhars, nilgais and tigers.
Bala Quila:
Your tour to Alwar - one of the most prime tourist destinations in India, will take you to the Bala Quila. Serving as an unfailing defender from foreigners, this splendid fort with monumental gates is 304 meters high and houses many palaces and temples. It is these gates which add to the charm of the fort.
Sagar:
Built in 1815 A.D by Maharaja Vinay Singh the man-made lake behind the City Palace has a few temples along its embankments. A wonderful chhatri with strange Bengali roof and vaults is situated within this lake.
