Kalimpong Tours
The first thing that hits any itinerant tourist travelling to Kalimpong is its calm atmosphere. The tranquil ambience that pervades is intensified by the occurrence of monasteries and places of adoration scattered over the town. Kalimpong is spread over an area of 36,021sq km and the best time to visit the place is throughout the months of April to June and the dialects spoken are Bengali, Nepali, Hindi and English.
Kalimpong is established in the to the north part of the state of West Bengal, in the north-eastern district of India. The climate in Kalimpong is alpine. Summers (April-June) are gentle and winters are freezing (November-February).It experiences south-western onsoon rainfall in July & September. There are several locations of tourist interest in Kalimpong. Kalimpong hosts an annual flower carnival in the month of October.
Kalimpong has three significant gompas or monasteries: the Tharpa Choeling Gompa, the Tongsa Gompa and Zong Dog Palri Fo-Brang Gompa. The Tharpa Choeling Gompa was established in 1922 and pertains to the Yellow Hat (Gelukpa) sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Travellers can visit some significant nurseries over the village and gaze at their assemblage of blossoms, orchids and cacti. Other locations to visit in Kalimpong encompass the Sericulture Research Institute, Dr Graham's Home and the adjacent to chapel (located on the gradients of Deolo Hill), and the Nature Interpretation Centre (located on Rinkingpong road).
Teesta Bazaar, established 16 km from Kalimpong, is a significant location for white-water rafting. The ideal time for rafting is between mid-novembers to mid-February. The Samco Ropeway over the Teesta River, on the major Siliguri-Gangtok Street is a significant tourist attraction beside Kalimpong.One has to take a coach for Siliguri from Kalimpong in order to visit this ropeway en route. From Kalimpong it is one can visit Phuntsholing, located on the other side of the Bhutanese border, without a visa.
